Estonian Companies' Competitiveness Ranking 2015

The aim of the competitiveness ranking is to facilitate growth in competitiveness among Estonian companies and thereby promote faster economic growth. The ranking highlights the most successful companies and sets them as an example for others. This is an excellent opportunity for successful companies to introduce themselves to the public and thereby secure their competitive position.

The history of the Estonian Companies' Competitiveness Ranking dates back to the year 2003 when this ranking was first drawn up by the initiative of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since the year 2006, the ranking is organised in cooperation with the Estonian Institute of Economic Research helps with the technical calculations and drawing up the rankings, in that cooperating with the Lausanne International Institute for Management Development.
The tables of the Estonian Companies' Competitiveness Ranking set forth the companies that participate voluntarily, meet the requirements of the methodology and submit the required statistical data on the economic activities of the past two years:

  • sales revenue,
  • net profit,
  • labour costs,
  • investments into fixed assets,
  • equity capital and
  • annual average number of employees.

Additionally, the following indicators are calculated on the basis of the data submitted by the companies:

  • change in sales revenue as compared to the previous year,
  • change in profit as compared to the previous year,
  • return on equity,
  • average labour costs per 1 employee per month in the reporting year,
  • productivity per 1 employee per year,
  • created added value (in this methodology profit + labour costs).

This year 400 companies submitted their data and wanted to participate in the competition.

For the third year, the general table was divided into three by the size of the company: the most competitive large, small and medium-sized and micro company were recognized.
Additionally, the most competitive companies were found by areas of activity. This year, the areas of activity were:

  • retail,
  • wholesale,
  • industry and energy,
  • food industry,
  • construction,
  • communications and IT services,
  • transport and logistics,
  • tourism,
  • financial brokerage,
  • real estate,
  • services.
